Project selection criteria
Successful projects will be selected based on the following criteria:
- The quality of the hypothesis, strength of the preliminary data and the potential impact the probe or associated technology will have on health care delivery and outcomes.
- The extent to which the proposed project contributes to the Centre. This implies that each project must address the specific deliverables and the commercial aims of the CPDC.
- To validate, translate and commercialize innovative imaging probes and associated technologies emerging from academic labs and research centres in Canada;
- To provide the means to obtain Health Canada approval for molecular probes and to increase the number of agents entering trials for clinical and drug development studies; and
- To attract investment in probe development to Ontario and to facilitate the creation of two new Canadian companies within the first five years of operations.
- The project demonstrates the importance of probe development for the economy of Canada and the health and well-being of Canadians, key requirements of the Networks of Centres of Excellence CECR program.
- The proposed project makes efficient and appropriate use of the Centre’s resources and expertise.
- There are measurable milestones to be completed within the proposed period of the project.
Funding allocations:
- It’s anticipated that approved projects will require $200,000 to $400,000 in support per year (based on the Centre’s Services) for a maximum of two years.
- Applicants must demonstrate they are working on securing additional funding for commercialization during the first year of the project.
- Project budgets may be increased to promote team proposals, involving multiple researchers and industrial partners particularly when multiple sites are involved.
The proposals will be assessed against the above criteria then assigned an overall rank. The goal is to fund as many of the top ranking projects permitted by the Centre’s budget.
