Brigitte Guérin, PhD

Assistant Professeur, Département de médecine nucléaire et de radiobiologie, FMSS Universitè de Sherbrooke, Sherbrooke, Québec

Brigitte Guérin received her PhD in Organic Chemistry (1994) from the Université de Sherbrooke and she pursued postdoctoral studies with Pr Yvan Guindon at Université de Montréal. In 1995, she joined his group at the Insitit de recherched cliniques de Montréal (IRCM) as a Research Associate in the Bioorganic Chemistry Laboratory. During that period, she worked on asymmetric induction of radical reactions, design and synthesis of nucleoside and selective selectin ligands. During this period, she co-supervised graduate students and postdoctoral trainees.

Dr. Guérin joined IPS Pharma in March 2003. She was in charge of the preparation and characterization of all new drugs developed  and tested by the company, including outsourcing to GMP manufacturing contracts and patents preparation. This was done successfully as is shown by a patent application, a promotion as director, and a compound accepted for clinical development.

Dr. Guérin has been recruited as assistant professor at the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Biology in 2007. She is Chief chemist and supervisor of radiochemistry operations at the Centre d'imagerie moléculaire de Sherbrooke (CIMS). Dr Guérin is an outstanding peptide chemist with a unique expertise in the development of new peptides and chelators for tumour imaging with positron emission tomography. Her current research focuses on development of new chemoselective reactions for the preparation of diverse pettide heterodimers and constrained (cyclic) pettides as unique and complementary tools to be used for the development of novel radiopharmaceuticals with two different positron emitters, i.e. 18F and 64Cu, to develop improved diagnostic tracers for PET imaging. She has published numerous papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings.
