About the CPDC

The Centre for Probe Development and Commercialization (CPDC) is the world’s first facility focusing on all areas related to the development of molecular imaging probes – chemical compounds that provide a non-invasive means to diagnose disease at its earliest stage. But improving diagnosis is only the beginning.

Molecular imaging probes and associated technologies have the potential to revolutionize health care. Probes can accelerate and support drug discovery and the development of new therapies by providing researchers with the chance to monitor the impact of medications at a molecular level, leading to personalized treatments for illness. The CPDC is helping to realize that potential by producing probes for drug discovery, including offering in-house expertise and probe production services.

Government and university investment in molecular imaging probe research and development has led to exciting and innovative Canadian discoveries in the field. Unfortunately, moving these probes and tools from university labs to hospitals and clinics has proved a challenge.

To meet that challenge, the Centre is focused on three main areas in molecular imaging probe development:

As a Centre of Excellence for Commercialization and Research, the CPDC receives federal investment through the Networks of Centres of Excellence program. The CPDC is also supported by national and international partners.
